Unit 1 - Introduction to media processes and technical skills

 Introduction to Animation: 11/09/23

The aim of the session was to create a small practical animation of a ball bouncing in ADOBE Animate and to learn and test the fundamentals of animation. We learned how to use a key-frame and to insert it into a timeline what tools needed to be used in the toolbar and what buttons access the tools the quickest.

We've learned the definitions of juxtaposition, FPS, (frames per second) along with hand-drawn and stop-motion animation. Frames per second mean the number or amount of frames that make up a second of animation.

Regarding animation methods, hand-drawn animation means that you draw an image and add the frames with the next drawing whilst stop motion is moving an object frame by frame by taking multiple pictures to show the illusion of movement.

Juxtaposition refers to the fact of two things being seen or placed close together with contrasting effect.

I feel that the process of the practical is very simple but also hard when creating more complex animations or when adding more layers to a frame. The theory process is easy to work around before or after doing practical work.

The software that was used was Adobe animate and there were specific tools such as the selection and shape tool along with the timeline and the use of layers to have two objects in frame at the same time. i also used key-frames as the drawing or shot that defines the starting and ending points of a smooth transition.

The task related to creating the illusion of movement along with frames per second because of how i used different techniques to create a simple moving animation by having an object move in every frame.

I struggled the most with trying to keep a drawing of the sun in frame on the next frame as i had to redraw each part of the sun that was on the previous frame to make sure it stayed on the next.

I am content with the outcome of my animation and would hope to improve in future projects and learn better and new techniques. what others thought about my work does reflect my opinion that I should try and improve however what I've done for now is okay.

In conclusion I feel as if my animation needs to be improved however for now i am glad i was able to learn and adapt my learning into creating something interesting and i hope to update and improve my skills. I would like to start manipulating animation to make it more fluid and expressive but also see what i can create with further experience and hopefully figure out ways to improve on the faults i made in this animation.

Introduction to Sound Production:
the aim of the session was to understand how sound production is created for use in media production and to practice using audio hardware to produce original sounds.

The main components of sound:
Foley - sound effects that are re-created for a game/film from objects
Music - that is created to add to the atmosphere of a game
ADR - ''automated dialogue replacement the process of re-recording dialogue post-production.

Types of Microphones:
H2 Zoom Recorder - (directional)
Rode - NTG2 (shotgun Mic) - (directional)
Beyerdynamic - MCE72 (boom mic) - (directional)
AKG D230 (report mic) - Omni-directional
